On my most recent trip to London, I saw something very interesting. It was a school called driving lessons uk. I asked a native what the school was all about and he told me that it was a school specifically for Americans who had moved to the UK and needed to learn how to drive the European way. He told me that the driving test in America was much different from the driving test in England or all ok the UK for that matter. For example, Americans are used to driving their motor vehicles on the opposite side of the road than the English are. This one simple switch can really throw an American off attempting to pass a driving test in England. They also have a whole bunch of different rules when it comes to operating motor vehicles, and when you go to take the written test you also might not familiar with the Metric or (SI) system in which the questions will be phrased . This all can be quitea lotto learn on your own that is specifically why they have built this specialized school. I have also been informed that Americans who are staying in or have moved to England have a very high rate of causing accidents, and so their insurance rates are actually higher just because they hail from America. Taking specialized courses on operating a motor vehicle in the UK is pretty much one of theonly ways for an American to get their insurance rates to go down.
The courses can be quite pricey and the price is actually based on driving performance and age. Young people pay less for the courses than adults do and young Americans typically end up having lower insurances rates than older Americans living in the UK. The reasoning behind this is that young people who have not already formed driving habits don't have to 'unlearn' all their old ways as their older counterparts do. I guess they go by the popularold adage that ' you can't teach an old dog new tricks'. That is, at least not very quickly anyway!
